General Appearance:

It's balanced fearless, confident, courageous, and naturally dog, with the exception of situations where it is inflamed, good-natured, attentive and well controlled. If dog would become as companion and defender, guarding, herding and service it must be appropriately gritty, combative and tough. But it is always calm and serene. It is bright, optimistic and obedient approach it is learning with joyful eagerness. It gets easily, credibly and wisely, under all circumstances it is reliable. It excels in owner loyalty, courage and docility.

Temperament/ Behaviour:

This breed needs the owner with natural authority who is a calm, decisive and clear negotiation and consistency there can be no doubt who is the leader of the "pack".

Socialization and education should start at an early age. Any physical punishment it is not necessary, just use clear intonation of voice in praise and rebuke. It loves owner and members of his family, to strangers it is distrustful. It needs the most intensive contact with "its people". It is therefore not the best, when it spends all its life in an outdoor kennel.

As a guard dog is alert and territorial enough to the space, which it is entrusted to dog, no one can let go in. The suspects it announces by loud barking. It should never be aggressive to the people it would be the result of improper upbringing and errors in training or lack of socialization. Well socialized and mannered German shepherd is a welcoming and tolerant of other dogs and to other pets, very friendly and happy with children.

As docile and active dog it usually works with enthusiasm and pleasure. It needs everyday job. This breed is suitable for various kinds of training. Shepherd Dog is today, although rarely applied, however, frequently as a service dog for the army, police, customs and correctional services it is also a proven and avalanche rescue dogs, guide dog for Blind people, guide dog for people with physical disabilities. It excels in dog sports - e.g. agility, obedience, flyball, frisbee or tracking.

Body:

It is a dog of medium size, strong and well muscled, but not rough framework, overall strong constitution and a rectangular body frame. The height at withers, male is 60-65 cm, female is 55 to 60 cm. Weight of body, male is 30-40 kg, female is 22 to 32 kg.

The head is wedge-shaped, not too long, the forehead is slightly arched, either with little perceptible longitudinal front furrow or without, skull slowly and evenly narrows and becomes slightly front slope of the wedge-shaped muzzle. The nasal dorsum should be straight, nose black.

The upper and lower jaws must be strong. Lips tightly fitting to the jaws and teeth are closed, with dark pigmented edge. Teeth should be strong, healthy and complete, scissor bite is required, the jaws must be powerful to have teeth could properly be deeply rooted.

Eyes are medium sized, almond shaped, slightly oblique and must never be protruding. They should be as dark as possible. The earlobes should be erect, medium size, atop the pointed, erect and symmetrically open forwards, backwards folded in motion or at rest is permitted.

The neck is strong, heavily muscled upper body lines run flawlessly since deployment of the neck over the well-defined withers and very gently sloping ridge to slightly sloping rump. The back is firm, strong and well muscled. The loin is broad, strongly muscled.

Tail reaches at least to the hocks than half the instep. On the underside of the hair should be slightly longer. It is carried hung slightly curved upwards, when excited, and moving slightly higher, but never above the topline of the body.

The chest should be moderately broad at the bottom of a long and pronounced ribs should be adequately arched. The forelegs are straight and parallel. Forearms are parallel, dry and firmly muscled. Feet are round, tight, arched toes and strong, but not stubborn padded. Nails should be strong, dark colours. The hindquarters are parallel. Thighs should be strong and muscular. Hocks are powerful and tight, insteps vertical to ground. The movement is relaxed, calm and smooth.

Desirable coat is medium length or long, both with undercoat. For medium-long outer coat should be as dense as possible, harsh and close adjacent, with a long coat, topcoat longer, softer and not so closely adjacent, it is called open.

Colouring may be black with reddish, brownish, yellow to pale grey markings, uniformly black, grey or grey with dark shading, a black "saddle" and called-facial mask. Rather small white markings on the chest front are just as bright colouring inside limbs permissible but undesirable. Nose must be made for each type of black colour. The undercoat shows a light greyish tone. The colour white is not permitted.

All faults from the requirements of the standard shall be considered as defects and evaluate accurately the degree of expression with regard to health, satisfaction and practical usability of the individual.

To negative defects belong aggression and fearfulness, weak character, biting and "weak" nerves, demonstrated severe hip dysplasia, monorchismus, cryptorchidism, or distinctly patchy. atrophied testicles, faulty carriage of ears and tail, any signs of malformation (monstrous development), dental defects, and that the absence of one third premolar (P3) and one other tooth or one canine (C), or one fourth premolar (P4 ), or a first or second molars (M1 or M2), or the loss of a total of three or more teeth, jaw defect, undershot jaw large 2 mm or more, undershot jaw, even bite in a number of incisors, about shoulder height more than 1 cm larger or smaller than specified standard, albinism, white hair and in dark eyes and claws, long outer coat without undercoat, long, soft, not lying (i.e. open) topcoat without undercoat forming a toupee back, with long feathering ears, limbs and tail.
