Its character is a brave, independent, but balanced and calm dog. Against the owner and members of its family, including children, it behaves sociably and amiably. It is affectionate, loyal and totally "its people" dedicated.
Although it can luxuriously hours to relax, laze and even (perhaps in a sunny place), as if it has nothing and it looks like it is not interested in anything, it is hard defender and virtually insurmountable guard - confident and utterly reliable. If necessary, it will change instantly from a seemingly phlegmatic lazy in a fierce adversary. When it is roused, its expression is very pungent and anyone should be discouraging from unwelcome ugly intentions. It is extremely territorial and distrustful towards strangers.
Today, it applies mainly as a companion dog that fits both the countryside and into the cities. Despite past as a fighting dog, territoriality and innate suspicion of strangers is relatively easy to train.

This is a typical short-haired dog, mastiff type dog, slightly longer body frame, strong, powerful build and of medium size.
