Hungarian Short-haired Pointer - Viszla

General Appearance:

It's a lively, quick and agile hound that after the passing  a proper training  it is versatile hunting dog , i.e. suitable for field work,  in the water and in the woods, its distinctive features include excellent sense of smell, pointing, excellent retrieving , helpful go to the game for tracking well across the water. It copes with difficult terrain and under extreme climatic conditions.

Training/Behaviour:

It is easy to train, but it does not tolerate even a hint of rough handling. The education and training is necessary only by kind consistency. For its frank, lively, friendly, balanced character and adaptability it is also suitable as a companion dog. The ability to easily make contact with the owner it is one of its essential qualities. It gets well with children, and it does not seek conflicts with other dogs. It is the happiest is if it can live with the people in the apartment, it should not be permanently housed in an outdoor kennel. It requires plenty of opportunities to move, with only short walks.

Body:

This is an elegant hunting dog of noble appearance with short deep golden-coloured hair rather light, dry, lean structure that is harmonious union of beauty and power. Body frame is short rectangular, height at the withers male is from 58 to 64 cm and female is from 54 to 60 cm. The larger size is undesirable, as the ideal is considered the middle range mentioned. Overall balance and symmetry of the exterior is more important than the absolute value of the height at the withers.

The head must be dry, noble, proportional. The skull should be moderately broad, slightly arched above, with a very distinct longitudinal frontal furrow, which stretches from stop to occipital part. It is not too pronounced, even imperceptible. Browridges are reasonably strong, frontal slope (stop) is gradual.

The nose should be fairly large, wide, with most open nostrils. Its colour is corresponding to of a colour of the coat. The muzzle should be blunt ended, should never be pointed at the end. The nasal dorsum should be straight, lips tightly fitting to the jaws and teeth should not be pendulous. Strong jaws required a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite. Cheeks should be strong, well muscled.

Eyes are medium sized, slightly oval in shape, the look is bright, intelligent. The colour of eye iris has to be brown, according to coat colour, and it is desirable that, if possible, as dark as possible. Eyelids are tight fitting to the eyeballs. The earlobes are suspended, set appropriately on the back of the head. They are gentle, close to the cheeks, the ends are pointed clothes.

The neck should be medium length, proportionate to the overall appearance, muscular and slightly arched. Throat skin is tight-fitting to the subcutaneous tissue and skeletal muscle. Withers pronounced and muscular the back should be firm and strong, straight, well-muscled spinous processes of the thoracic vertebrae should be hidden by the muscles. Transition from back to loin must be very hard.

Chest is deep and broad with a strong, muscular appropriately and adequately arched forechest. Its depth is equal to about 1/2 of the height at the withers. Sternum should interfere as far back and is equal to the elbows. The ribs are slightly arched, the last reach far back. The loin is short, broad, tight, muscular, straight or slightly arched. The croup should be wide and long enough, not short and gore, but slightly sloping, well muscled. The bottom line of the body forms when viewed from the elegant reverse the upward curve. The belly is firm and slightly tucked.

The tail is relatively low, at root has to be strong, towards the tip tapers. For precautionary reasons (i.e. with respect to the use of hunting) will be reduced by a quarter. The position and the move must be parallel to each other, its wear pads are tough and durable, slate-grey hue.

The hindquarters should be viewed from behind straight and parallel, viewed from the side properly angled, strong bones. Thighs long and muscular, knees are bent appropriately. Lower thigh should be muscular, sinewy long and about as thighs. Hocks must be strong, lean and sinewy, moderately angulated and are relatively low over the base. Hock should be perpendicular to the substrate, short and dry. The hind feet should be the same as the forequarters.

Skin tight fit to the skeletal muscle and subcutaneous tissue, without folds and fully pigmented. The coat should be short and dense, hard to the touch, head and ear lobe is softer, silkier and shorter on the underside of the tail is a little, but not much longer. It should cover evenly throughout the body, but the belly is sparsely furred. Undercoat is missing.

Coat colour is a rich golden sand of different shades. The skin may be a little darker, otherwise uniform colour.
