Japanese Spitz

General Appearance:

It is intelligent, lively, cheerful, docile and very understanding dog that is not as noisy as some others Spitz. It is reasonably playful and lively, and therefore it is suitable as a companion of children's games.

Temperament/Behaviour:

The education and training makes no problems, because it is teachable and it has a desire to make pleasure. Elementary demand kind but sheer consistency in education, however, it must be respected. Like its closest relatives, it excels in vigilance and to strangers is restrained, carefully guarded and the owner to whom it is entirely devoted, and the members of owner’s family too.

Because it is socially based, it feel s the best when it can be still close with people, family. In outdoor pens it is not suitable. Despite the small size it does definitely miss courage, "his" family it loves that it is always ready to defend. With other dogs and other pets it well tolerates. It loves various activities e.g. game with the ball, retrieve, etc. It has all the prerequisites to be successful in agility, flyball or frisbee. It learns quickly and well, this kind of activity it suits it. It has exaggerated desire for long walks, easy to customize, but it likes when it has enough exercise, because if you are the owner of at least 2 - 3 times you must walk the long walks.

Body:

It's a dog strong constitution, perfectly balanced. Its harmonious beauty expresses soulfulness, grandeur and elegance, which is consistent with its temperament base. Body frame should be short rectangular. Withers height, male is 30-38 cm, females are slightly smaller.

The head corresponds to the size of the body and moderately broad. The forehead should be slightly domed skull should be above arched and broadest in the occipital landscape. The frontal slope is steep. The muzzle should be pointed, slightly rounded at the end. The nose must be small, round, black-coloured. Lips close fitting to the jaws and teeth and their margins should be black. The teeth are white and strong with scissor bite is required.

Eyes should be medium-sized, almond shaped, slightly oblique, dark-coloured irises. The rims are black. Ears should be high and relatively close to each other and carried small, triangular, pricked forward and open.

The neck is of moderate length, muscular. Withers must be high, back straight and short, shoulders are broad. The tail should be set high, appropriately long, carried up, curl over the back and shoulders, heavily furred.

Chest is required to appropriately broad and deep, ribs should be properly rounded. The abdomen is noticeably tucked up. The forelegs are reasonably sloping shoulder blade, elbows close to the body and forearms are straight. The hindquarters must be muscular with appropriately bent stifles and hocks and called. Cat (rounded) paws are thickly padded - preferably black and also black claws. Movement is fast and agile.

The coat is rich. The hairs are straight, stand, undercoat short, soft and dense. In the face, ears, the front sides of the forelegs, and insteps hair is short, on the body should be long, neck, shoulders and chest forms a distinct "collar". The tail is covered with long flowing hair.

Coat colour must be pure white. Yellowish hue as earlobes and back, is undesirable, but generally in Europe, due to rare amount of this breed tolerates. The coat requires regular care. Especially in larger or industrial towns, where there are plenty of pollutions in the air, frequent bathing is inevitable, because the hair has to be whitewashed. Bathing is necessary to use special cosmetics (shampoos and conditioners) for dogs which contains exclusively vegetable oils and animal fats (e.g. mink oil or lanolin). After shampooing it is necessary to apply an appropriate balm-conditioner volumizing the hair.

Any faults from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and accurately assessed by the degree of expression with regard to the health and welfare of the male or female. Defects include overshot or undershot jaw, excessively curled tail, shyness, barking. To negative defects belong aggression or fearfulness, hanging ears, tail carried differently from upward curl over the back and shoulders.
