Thai Ridgeback - Group V. - Spitz and primitive types, Section 7 - Primitive type Hunting Dogs.

General Appearance:

In its country of origin this breed is still used as a hunting dog. It is very fast and tenacious runner and great jumper from an early age, above all it loves to move. Puppies like to climb. Its nature is totally independent, spirited and self-made, cannot count on this dog with absolute slavish obedience. According to some opinions it lacks defensive instincts, others are completely natural defender "their" people and their house or apartment. It is insightful and intelligent "cunning" dog. It can use its advantages seemingly different adverse situations.

Training/Behaviour:

It requires a lot of kind understanding. It does not tolerate any pressure or even violence and drill. It belongs exclusively to the experienced and empathetic owners, definitely not suitable for beginners. Owner must have much time to spend with this breed. It needs a loving owner, but also quite consistent, which natural authority and the ability to effortlessly be applied to any situation. If owner did not have the character and attitude that was mentioned dog could become very aggressive.

This breed is fixed to the owner, it likes close contact with owner (it likes cuddling), which it obviously brings extra satisfaction. It needs the most intensive contact with person, it likes when owner speak to it. It really loves close contact with owner. Change of owner could be disaster for this breed.

It is an excellent companion for humans, but it is absolutely necessary systematic early socialization, including sufficient contact with strangers, other dogs, and various animals. Non socialized dog may be distrustful, sometimes wild and difficult to control. It needs a lot of movement in this direction is very challenging, but it usually cannot be let off the leash anywhere, because its hunting instinct is so strong it compels it despite all its love for the owners and good manners it must  follow scent and catch it.

Also it is retrieving enthusiastically. If you have ample opportunities for free movement, the best is in a fenced plot, the plot must have the proper height, because it is an excellent jumper, it behaves at home gently and calmly. When properly conducted training excellently applied in competitions in agility. With regard to the relationship with the owner it is not suitable for outdoor pens, where it cannot stay due to smooth coat, very short hair cannot enough to protect dog from the cold. It loves the heat.

Body:

It's a medium-sized shorthaired dog short of a rectangular longitudinal strip opposite the hair growing (RIDZI) on the back. Musculature is well developed, along with an overall body allows dog physical activity of all kinds. The height at withers, male is 56-61 cm for female is from 51 to 56 cm at tolerance of +/- 2.5 cm in both sexes.

The head has an overall wedge shape. The skull is flat between the earlobes, when viewed from the side slightly rounded. Skin of the forehead is forming slight wrinkles. The frontal slope must be gradual, but noticeable. The muzzle should be wedge-shaped, slightly shorter than skull. The muzzle is long, straight, black nose, with blue (silver), blue (slate grey).

Lips close fitting to the jaws and teeth and are fully pigmented, without pink spots. Tongue can be either pink, often with black spots, or all blue. Strong jaws, teeth should be white, firm, scissor bite is required.

Eyes should be medium-sized, almond shaped, dark brown colour. For individuals with a blue coloured coat may be the colour of amber. The earlobes are perfectly erect, set further apart. Must never be cropped, they are mid-sized, shaped like a triangle, turned forward.

The neck is of medium length, strong, muscular and in the neck slightly arched, carried so that the head was high enough. The body has a strong, straight back, broad shoulders and strong and slightly sloping. The tail is strong at the root, calm down carried. Its tip can reach hock joints. When alert and in motion can be carried upward, slightly curved.

The chest should be deep, reaching the elbow. The ribs are well, but never barrel-shaped. The bottom line of the body determines properly tucked up.

The forelegs are sloping shoulder blade, long forearms. Pasterns when viewed from the front are straight when viewed from the side very slightly sloped. Feet are oval in shape. Nails should be black, but according to shade coat colour may be lighter. The hindquarters are well developed thighs, knees and angulated, hocks strong low over the base. Hocks when viewed from behind straight and parallel to each other.

The skin must be thin, flexible, fits tightly to the skeletal muscle and subcutaneous tissue on the neck without dewlap. The coat is very short, smooth, contiguous and velvety to the touch. Ridzi an elongated strip of hair growing back to front of the spine, beginning in the landscape withers and extends to the hip bumps. It can have a different shape and length and width, but must be symmetrical on both sides of the spine and sharply bounded. Must not be wider than the back, it must not interfere with the sides of the body. The hair of faith at the front and RIDZI are permissible. It identifies eight basic shapes Ridzi and none of them is preferred.

Colouration may be uniform, maroon-red shade different, very light fawn (Isabella) until deep golden yellow, black, blue or silver. With red and fawn-coloured individuals often found a black mask on his face.
