General Appearance:
It's hunting passionate, courageous, tough, hardy and agile dog with an excellent sense of smell, character and friendly never nervous or aggressive, always balanced temperament. Intelligence is its reputation, ingenuity and cleverness and cunning, it can always use for own benefit. It also excels in remarkable tenacity and persistence. It is stubborn and its obedience reportedly has its limits, but it is partly due to its natural autonomy (must be able to decide itself when hunting) and part of its relationship to the owner.
Temperament/Behaviour:
In the education and training by owner, the owner must never try to break this dog. There is not tolerate scolding, let alone other punishments, "the insults," and it stops communicating. Because it is very perceptive and clever means good intonation. During its education is necessary calmness, patience, prudence and sweet, but the fierce consistency.
It is sociable and devoted to its owner and its family. It does not like being alone, and therefore it cannot be permanently kept outdoor pens. To strangers, but it is reserved and often barks at them, because it is trying to guard. Early socialization is necessary. With children it is getting well, but they cannot deal with it as a living toy it has its dignity. It can accept pets, if it is used to from young age.
If it is not used for hunting, it is grateful for longer walks, but it is flexible, not necessarily daily. It has hunting abilities that are encoded so deeply that if it decides to walk in the countryside or run, there is such a risk, it is better to keep it on a leash. Every Dachshund loves comfort, it enjoys it. Especially younger individuals tend to be very vigorous, it is best to get them a job, for example agility training.
Body:
Body is compact, muscled must be strong relative to the body frame of small sized dogs, it is elongated rectangular. The member countries of the FCI there are bred 9 types (3 different hairs in 3 sizes). The largest standard type is a basic of which are derived both miniaturization smaller, Miniature and Rabbit type. Size different are distinguished by chest circumference. The Standard type size is more than 35 cm. It is among the Miniature chest circumference 30-35 cm for Rabbit and involves a max. 30 cm. Typical is its proud head carriage and alert facial expression. Each individual must match the type of gender. It is very agile and nimble.
The head is elongated and tapering evenly from occipital landscape nose. Browridges are significant. The skull is rather flat, frontal slope should be indicated only gradually merging with the slightly arched nasal bridge. The nose is big, long and narrow and muzzle must be elongated sufficiently broad and strong.
It must be able to open mouth wide open, the jaws are relatively powerful, scissor bite is required, regular, full dentition with strong, exactly fitting into each other canines. Lips are tightly fitting to the jaws and teeth and upper completely covers the lower jaw.
Eyes are medium sized, oval, properly stored far apart, with clear energetic yet friendly, never unpleasantly prickly eyes. The colour of the iris is bright, dark reddish brown to blackish brown regardless of coat colour-called glassy, fish or pearl-coloured eyes are undesirable, tolerated only in individuals - marling. The earlobes should be high enough long. On tops are rounded and be movable. The front edge is lying close to cheek.
The neck is sufficiently long, carried freely and high muscular. Neck should be slightly arched, the upper body lines when viewed from the side runs smoothly from neck to slightly sloping croup. Withers has to be distinctive, high, back is straight or slightly sloping, strong and well muscled. Loins are properly muscled, long enough. The croup should be broad, proper length, slightly sloping. The tail may be set higher; it is carried in the extension of the upper line of the body and in the last third can be slightly bent upwards.
The chest is strong, oval shaped chest and spacious. Belly slightly tucked. The front legs are muscular, properly angled, dry, straight, strongly boned, with paws pointing straight forward. The blades are plastically muscled, long and sloping. The shoulder bones are strong and well muscled, freely movable. Forearms should be short and straight.
Feet with well-knit toes are well arched with strong, durable and flexible padded and short, strong nails. The first fingers ("thumb") are not working, but cannot be removed. The hindquarters are strongly muscled, parallel. The thighs are tightly muscled and long enough, knees wide and strong, much bent, legs short, well muscled. Hocks are to be strongly bent, wiry and dry. The hocks are quite long, ankle movably attached to the legs. Feet consists of four tightly fitting, appropriately arched toes touching the ground with high padded. Movement should be roomy, smooth and light.
For smooth hairs is short, shiny, smooth and contiguous hard, dense anywhere on the body. The tail should be fine and a full length, but not too profusely coated.
Coat colour can be single, double or -patchy (and tiger striped). Uniform coat colour may be red, yellow-red and yellow. Double coat colour can be black and tan or brown and tan.
For wire hair type nature topcoat with the exception of muzzle, eyebrows and earlobes steeped undercoat must be (on the body) perfectly fitting with dense, wiry. On the muzzle forms a distinct beard and bushy eyebrows above the eyes. Coat colour is predominantly shade from light to dark wild boar, dry leaves and acceptable are the same colours as smooth one.
At the longhaired character's hair soft, shiny, mixing with the undercoat adjacent longer under the neck and on the lower body to the ear lobe, whose margins beyond, and on the back side of front and hind legs (where they form a "feathering" and "pants"). The longest is the underside of the tail, which forms a so-called flag. Colour is the same as for smooth type. Long hair requires regular care.
All deviations from the requirements of the standard must be considered as defects and evaluate exactly according to their severity with regard to the health and welfare of the male or female. To negative defects counts considerable fearfulness or aggression, overshot or undershot jaw, wry, defective position down teeth canines, the absence of one or more canines, one or more incisors, other premolars and molars, indented chest (when viewed from the side sharply cranked transition the bottom line of the chest to the belly line), all defects formation and tail carriage, very loose blades in the opposite direction (forward) are sagging (bend, break) wrist uniformly black coat without burning white coat with tan or without another coat colour than in the standard.
