Continental Toy Spaniel

FCI:

Continental Toy Spaniel - Group XI Companion and Toy Dogs, Section - Continental Toy Spaniel.

General Appearance:

It's gentle, but lively and intelligent dog. Although at first glance it looks quite fragile, but it is only an illusion. It can be happy, playful and fun, loves the movement and various exercises, e.g. agility training.

Definitely it is not suitable for outdoor pen. It is very friendly and perfectly happy in the company of the owner or members of owner´s family. It loves cuddling.
Its attitude is a soulful, charming, gentle, noble and gentle. It is patient, but also proud, which are appearances that must be respected during its education and training. When it is trained it is docile and hardy properly.

Temperament/Behaviour:

The education does not make any trouble, if it is nice and consistent. Only the owner cannot succumb to the belief that a dog of this size and foundation of this character it actually does not need any education. It would be a big mistake. Totally spoiled and disobedient breed despite all its excellent features it could be quite unpleasant companion.

It loves children, and if it got used them from to young age, it can live together with cats and others domestic pets. If you do not practice with this dog, it needs regular daily long walks.

It fits in a city apartment, but it tends to watch, there it might interfere with barking. That it can be learnt not to bark. Feathering is its glory, but necessarily it requires regular care (grooming) and it takes time.

Body:

It's a long-haired, elegant, and relatively hefty dog proud posture and harmonious construction with light and graceful movements. Body length from the front edge of the shoulder to point of buttock in the pan is equal to or slightly longer than the height. This is around 28 cm. Weight of body there are two categories - lighter weight of body is 2.5 kg for male and female, and heavier weight of body 2.5 to 4.5 kg for male and 2.5 - 5 kg for the female. Minimal weight of body is 1.5 kg.

The head is in proportion to the body proportionally, but rather lighter and shorter than in large and medium sized Spaniel. Skull should not be too curved even when viewed from the side, not the front. Sometimes it is seen slightly marked longitudinal front cutting machine.

The nose is small, black and round, slightly above flatness. Lips must be on the edges ticked, narrow and well-fitting to the jaw and teeth. The jaws are relatively strong. It requires the normal scissor bite. Tongue should not be seen when mouth closed. It is considered a defect, it is constantly visible or not retract when the touch of a finger.

The eyes are fairly large and opened properly, almond-shaped, not bulking imposed fairly deep, dark, expressive. The inner eye corners just shall be on the transition of the skull to the muzzle. The edges of the eyelids must be ticked.

The earlobes should be relatively gentle, but firm. Whether you are erect or suspended shall not be sharply pointed at the ends, which must be verified by palpation. They are set rather far back on the head, quite large, so it does not obscure the slightly rounded dome of the skull.

The tail is fairly high, fairly long. Profuse feathering on it creates a "flag". For moving carried raised level with the top line of the body and to the end curved such that the tip can touch the back. It should never be twisted or surface attached to the spine.

The chest should be broad and deep enough. Its circumference measured between the past two ribs must be approximately equal to height at withers.

Feet are quite long, called hare, and the rest evenly on antipersonnel pads. Nails should be strong, preferably black, but brown and white coloured specimens can be lighter. White nails for individuals or white with white legs do not constitute a fault if they are otherwise well pigmented.

The coat, without undercoat, is abundant, wavy, but not curly, with a silky sheen. It is not entirely soft to the touch and rather it is a little harder, contiguous, fairly smooth, slightly wavy. Coat reminds King Charles spaniel but significantly different from the hair Pekingese and even a little may not resemble the coat spike.

Faults include the above flat skull, the skull apple-shaped and arched as King Charles Spaniel, too steep or too gentle stop, convex or concave nasal bridge, incomplete pigmentation, overshot or undershot jaw, eyes small, too round, protruding or light coloured, with visible sclera.
