History: Siamese Cats came from the Far East, where it is not exactly known from. Anyway, in Thailand (then Siam), these animals were already in the 14th century. From there, they were imported to England and France, where they appeared on the first cat shows. At that time they did not already have the body structure typical of today's Siamese. They were considerably thicker and they had a rather round skull. The sign of the breed, which at the time was the highest ideal of beauty and proof of the purity of the breed, it was a Siamese cat that had slashed, noticeably wrinkled tail. However, the Siamese that were bred in the Siam monasteries they did not show these signs.
The first imports from Thailand were cats stained with seal points (with black-brown badges). These cats spontaneously bred kittens of other colours like blue point, chocolate point and lilac point (blue, chocolate and lilac badges). These four full colours are classic Siamese colours. All that appeared later came from crossbreeding with other breeds. That is why only the classic colours are recognized in the United States. These modern colours are originated in the UK in the 1950s and 1960s.
Temperament: These cats have a distinctive character and they are only present at home. It is also called a dog between cats. Therefore, this breed is not suitable for all breeders. They are very talking and extraordinary social cats that give you a lack of attention very loudly. It cannot be left alone for long time. With other cats they get very well and they are noticeably well tolerated by dogs. Siamese are cheerful cats that like to be in the centre of attention and surely with no heartbreak. He or she will quickly learn to get a ball or to walk in the harness.
Body: Siamese cat's body has a charming, elegant and flexible structure. It is long, slender and muscular. Nowhere should it be rough. Slim long legs have oval paws. The hind legs are longer than the front. Long tail is thin and runs to tip. Broken tail is undesirable. The wedge head should ideally have to form a perfect isosceles triangle together with the large, hooked ears. The chin must not go back or be too prominent. Almond's eyes are slightly sloping on the head. They cannot be too deep. The long nose has a straight profile and passes smoothly into the upper part of the skull.
Coat: Siamese has a very short coat with a silk structure and with very little or no undercoat. The touch is silky and delicate.
Care: The Siamese´s hair does not need special care. At the time of moulting, remove loose hair with a wet suede cloth or coat if necessary with a fine comb. If you decide to show your Siamese, it may sometimes be necessary to wash it with a good shampoo for cats several days before the show. The sharp ends of the claws should be cut regularly, and the ears should be cleaned.
Colour variants: As it was said, the original colours are seal, blue, chocolate and lilac point. Siamese is also often found in the red point and cream point. Seal, blue, chocolate and lilac point are also in variations of tortoise (turtle) and tortoise tabby (tortoiseshell with pattern). Recently, the colour of cinnamon, fawn, smoke, silver tabby, bicolour point and tricolour point. The eye colour should be pure dark blue.
Kittens of this breed are born pure white, only later they get coloured badges (masks, ears, tail and legs). It's the so-called Himalayan colouring. The persistent colour of the coat develops only around the third year of age. The coat may become darker due to cooler climates and licking of the coat, or in places of skin damage. The formation of shadows on the coat occurs mainly with the colouring of the seal point and the blue point. It is difficult to remove by breeding. In purely coloured red points and creamy points, unwanted tabby patterns often appear on the tail like rings and on the legs and head as strips.
A pure white Siamese cat is called Foreign White. It remains as purely white as it is in all its life. It must have no ink of yellow or other colour. The inside of the ears, the nose and the pads of the paws are always pink. Unlike other white cats with blue eyes, Foreigh White does not have the gene of deafness. The blue colour of the eyes is due to the breed, not by the gene, which by other white cats causes blue eyes and associated deafness.
