Its character is kind, totally non-aggressive, friendly, calm, calm, easy-going, intelligent and devoted to their human "pack". It adores human society and loves children, too. It's slower, but more diligent and attentive. When it is hunting actively and vigorously, it has an excellent sense of smell and it is ready for retrieving the preys, it does not avoid the water.
Temperament & Behaviour:
Its training is not entirely easy; some trainees seem to be stubborn. Training must be sensitive, gentle, frequently reinforced by positive stimuli (praising and snacks). It learns quickly, but hates coercion or unnecessary haste. Trainee needs to be a calm and patient. It requires nice and consistent leadership.
It has a strong sense of smell, if it finds a wild animal, it starts chasing, so calling back it is not easy for this breed, the dog is hunting.
Coat requires regular care, especially after a stay in the countryside it needs to brush properly. It is very difficult for this breed a high summer temperature.
Sussex spaniel is a small strong but sturdy dog strong body and a rectangular body frame. The ideal height at the withers is 38-41 cm. Body weight is about 23 kg.
The head is balanced, broad skull, moderately rounded between the earlobes - either completely flat or convex dome. It has longitudinal front furrow. Browridges are significant. The neck is long, strong in the neck slightly arched, carried so that the head is not too high above the topline of the body. On the neck may be only a small adjoining lobe front chest hair forms a distinct "jabot" (frill).
