Stabijhoun - Group VII - Pointing Dogs Section, Section 1.2 Continental Pointing Dog Spaniel type.

General Appearance:

It's true, friendly, docile, intelligent, calm, obedient, easy to train and alert dog. Although hunting breed with extremely fine sense of smell and great stamina, it can also be a nice social dog never has questionable character and it is not aggressive. It is conciliatory, it does not seek conflicts with other dogs and it gets with them well. If it gets used to them at an early age, it gets well with cats and other small domestic pets.

Training/Behaviour:

The education does not make any problem by consistent access.  It can handle even a novice owner. It responds ordinarily in the intonation of the voice, however, that must be clear and unambiguous, both in praise and rebuke in the event, which should be more than angry taunting or even threatening. It excels in general truly remarkable willingness to provide commands of the owner.

It needs a lot of movement, at least long walks, but also likes to take place freely. It's possible if it is a reliable recall, it does not tend to move away from the owner. It is resistant to bad weather, but with regard to behavioural foundation it is not suitable to be permanently kept in an outdoor kennel. Besides hunting usage it is also suitable for competitions in agility, flyball etc. The coat requires regular care (teasing).

Body:

This is a dog proportioned, strong body structure, rectangular body frame, not too heavy or too light. Ideal height at withers male is about 53 cm female is50 cm.
The head is dry and rather longer than wide size to body size. The skull should be as long as the muzzle, above slightly arched towards the cheeks slightly rounded. Not downright narrow, but may not give the impression that it is too broad. The frontal slope (foot) should be gradual.

The muzzle must be robust, toward the nose tapers, without, however, pointed at the end. The nasal bridge is straight, wide and seen from the side must not be thick or uttered. Nose must be black in individual coloured black-and-white and brown in individual coloured brown and white and orange and white. It should not be affected by cleft. The nostrils are wide open.

Lips tight fitting to the jaws and teeth and are not overhanging (free). Teeth should be strong, scissor bite is required. Cheeks are not too significant, not protruding to sideways.

Eyes are medium sized, round and horizontal connector inner and outer corners of the eye when viewed from the front horizontal. They should not be bulging or too stuck in orbit. Eyelids tight fitting to the eyeballs, conjunctiva must not be seen. The colour of the iris is dark brown in individuals with a black-and-white coat and brown for those whose hair colour is brown-and-white or orange-white. "Predators" (yellow) eyes are undesirable.

The earlobes should be fairly low, hanging, medium length. Blend surface along the cheeks without Corkscrew curled. Pinna, which does not join right away from the base and not adhere closely to the cheek, are undesirable. Haired ears are the typical breeding character. In the upper parts are covered with long hair, which is towards the tip gradually decreases, so the lower third is coated shortly. Long hair can be straight or slightly wavy, but not curly.

The neck is short and to the imaginary circular cross-section, in a slightly arched neck, with the neck without dewlap, the head is usually carried quite low. Body should be a huge, back straight, fairly long. Loins are strong, stern when viewed from the side, slightly sloping. Tail not too high, should be long so that it reaches the hock and the rest is carried hanging down, while the remaining third is slightly curved upwards. The motion is carried higher but they should never be curled. It is bushy, covered around long straight hair without curls and ripples that form on the underside of the distinctive "flag".

Forechest be seen from the front wide, wider than deep, so the attitude forelegs are fairly broad. The bottom is rounded chest, never to be hernia reaches max elbows. Ribs must be properly sprung and the last are quite strong. The belly is only slightly tucked.

The forelegs are closely adjacent paddles to the chest and placed diagonally so that their axes form with the shoulder bones reasonable angles. The forearms are strong and perfectly straight. The pasterns should be perpendicular to the substrate and may never be seen from the side slanted. Feet are strong and tight, toes, and are not explicitly "cat" or "hare", to be short oval. The pads are tough.

The hindquarters should be powerful, properly bent at the hips, knees and hocks. Crus are not too long and ankle should be low on the substrate, insteps short paws round, thickly padded.

Skin fits over the body to skeletal muscle and subcutaneous tissue and does not form wrinkles or creases. The hair is long and contiguous, only the stern may be slightly wavy. At the head is short, on the back of the forelegs, as well as behind the thighs rich, more bushy than to form the typical "feathering" or "pants" across the hindquarters with the exception of the distal parts of long hair. Colour is black, brown or orange, always with white markings. The white areas are permitted dotting or roan.
