General Appearance:
Today is Mastiono Napoletano mainly social breed, the role of the guard it naturally performs too. Character is calm and to its owner it is absolutely faithful dog. Despite its serious and respectable facial expression it can be cheerful and the owner and owner´s family is friendly and affectionate. It cannot be permanently housed in an outdoor kennel or kennel because of physical and mental status. The dog is the happiest in the family circle. To the family is quite affectionate and it enjoys being in the middle of all the action. It wants to be a full member "pack" of family.
Temperament/Behaviour:
This breed needs early socialization and opportunity to get know children after it gets well with them , children must not bother it bother when it wants to keep its relax. Naturally it tends to dominate, especially to other dogs. This is especially true for males. Therefore,it must get from an early age appropriate education and early socialization.
The basis of education must be kind, but absolutely strong consistency. The dog's force must be all times and under all circumstances perfectly controllable. It is important in the upbringing of positive stimulation in the form of treats. It is deal for a quiet person, gifted natural authority and the ability to peacefully exercise it at any time and with previous experience with breeding dogs.
This dog can fell when its owner is "true pack leader" that respects. Its obedience is limited, it is never blindly slave, it's too confident by nature accustomed to decide independently. It often looks, as it is thinking about the meaningfulness of the issued command. Person, who is the nature violent, capricious, inconsistent, erratic or too lenient – such a man, should not keep this breed.
Body:
It's big, heavy, powerful and sturdy dog. Height at withers , male is 65-75 cm ,female is 60 to 68 cm, weight of body is 60 to 70 kg for males and 50-60 kg for females.
The head is massive in cheeks wide skin on it is very loose and consists of wrinkles and folds the most typical and most obvious stretch from the outer corners of the eye up to the corners of the mouth. Topline of skull is in the imaginary extension when viewed from the side line of the nasal spine. The skull should be wide, particularly among earlobes flat when viewed from the front in front of the slightly domed.
The muzzle is very wide and deep; its length corresponds to the length of the muzzle is equal to 1/3 of the tot. The length of the head and side lines are parallel when viewed from above, so that when viewed from the front has a virtually square shape. The nose is viewed by the direct continuation of the muzzle and must not protrude beyond the outer vertical line of the upper lip and must be voluminous with large, wide open nostrils. Its colour corresponds to the colour of the coat. It is black in black subjects, chestnut brown in brown and dark grey-brown among others.

On the neck is loose skin which forms a double, symmetrically divided, but not excessively bulky lobe. It begins at the level of the lower jaw and does not extend across the middle of the neck.
Croup should be broad, strong and very muscular.
The tail is broad at the root thick, strong, to the tip narrows slightly. Reaching to the hock, but usually is docked at about 2/3 of its original length (which is possible only in countries where the operation is not prohibited by law on protection of animals). At rest is carried hanging and curved sabre up, movement rises to the level of the topline of the body or slightly above it.
Chest: from the front wide, spacious and powerfully muscled. Width corresponds to the width of ribcage and reaches the 40-45% KOH height. The movement is a typical sign of breeding. The step resembles a large feline type, e.g. lion. Locomotion is slow and resembles a little bear. For the trot is a typical reflection of the massive hind legs and large chest action. It rarely gallops usually ranges or a trot. Pacing is tolerated.
The coat is shiny, rough and hard, dense, in all parts of the body equally long and equally smoothly contiguous, not more than 1.5 cm long. There are cannot be a hint of a longer coat it cannot form to "Feathering" behind forelegs. The most common coat colour is grey, leaden grey, black, brown, fawn and deep red (red deer), sometimes with small white spots front chest and the tips of the fingers.
