History: Thai Cat has a long and famous history, it is a relatively new breed. The first documented references about this   breed it is coming from 1330, in the literary work "The poem about a cat". The cats were called the "Royal Cat of Siam" (now Thailand). At that time, they were considered as holy and it was believed they can bring happiness. That is why they were located only in Buddhist monasteries, royal palaces and significant settlements. Till now, these cats in Thailand are called Wichien-Maat, a monthly diamond.

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Siamese king Rama V gave several Thai Cats to European rulers during his diplomatic tours. Their exotic appearance immediately got huge interest of breeders and already in 1903 in Europe there was set the standard of the breed, which was further modified according to breeding intentions. The breed was named Siamese Cat. Appearance of cats soon began to differ considerably from the original imported individuals.

Later, however, the pressure on the original look of cats began to increase. Breeders began to search for cats similar to the original breed, and in 1990 Thai cats of traditional appearance were recognized as a separate breed with their own breeding standard.

Nature: This is a friendly, intelligent and curious cat. It is very communicative and likes to be present in a human society, which it often prefers to the company of other cats. So loneliness it does not suit it. Thai Cats are very cuddly and playful, but they do not endure as much as other oriental breeds. Thanks to their intelligence, they can easily learn how to get or walk in the harness.

Body: Than the Siamese cat, Thai Cat has a milder, more natural appearance with balanced proportions. The elegant body is medium in size, robust and well-muscled. The limbs are relatively long in relation to the body. The head is rounded, with a profile without a bend or a trace. Medium-sized ears are set further apart. Big eyes

Coat: Short coat of Thai Cats with minimal undercoat is soft, firm and well stick to the body.

Care: The Thai Cat's hair needs to be once a week combed. There is no need for special attention even during the moulting period, which does not occur intensively by Thai Cats. The sharp ends of the claws should be cut regularly, and the ears should be cleaned only when needed.

Colour variants: The Thai Cat is typical in the Himalayan´s colouring. There are several colour varieties, the most common being black-brown with the seal-point and blue with the blue-point. It is also a chocolate with badges (chocolate-point), lilac with badges (lilac-point) and red with badges (red-point). These colours can also be with the tabby point. Eyes have intense blue colour.
