Tosa Inu

Tosa Inu -Group II - Pinschers and Schnauzers, Molossoid breeds, Swiss Mountain and Cattle Dogs.

General Appearance:

It has entrenched personality traits, typical for dogs of this section - resistance, toughness and combativeness. Characteristic is for its also patience, boldness and courage. In essence, it is very self-confident, serene and quiet, there is little it embarrasses but it will gain if the impression that the owner or members of its family are in danger, it is ready to intervene immediately. Similarly, it responds to uninvited guests - a territory that it considers entrusted to guard, it defends absolutely uncompromising. The owner and its family members are affectionate with their children is usually in good terms and it is tolerant to them, but they must respect its personality. From strange dogs should rather be kept aside, especially to individuals of the same sex it behaves very dominant and it has to feel that it intends to attack another dog or it is not willing to obey it intervenes swiftly and harshly.

Temperament & Behaviour:

With other pets, including cats, it tolerates quite well, if it is accustomed to it since its childhood. Early socialization and very wide, it is more than necessary. Tosa Inu is not dog for beginners, not consistent people and those who have lack of a natural authority. Education must to be consistent since childhood, but definitely Tosa Inu is an intelligent, sensitive, feels sensitively intonation, and it should be absolutely clear. The man who speaks with the same voice, praise or reprimands, like the other dogs despite all efforts, it is confused. It requires a comprehensive and peaceful negotiation; commands must be unique. Tosa Inu is not suitable for people who cannot speak clearly, well intonation, etc.

Tosa Inu should not permanently stay in an outdoor kennel. It should be able to spend as much time with the owner and its family members. It will be its relationship with the people at the appropriate level. Freedom of movement is welcomed, but without the worry it can be let free only on fenced land. It is recommended to keep dog on leash, there is given the risk of conflict with other dogs, so it must be learnt from a very young age, it would be difficult to handle and extremely powerful man. At the time of the fastest growth, with a period the exchange of milk teeth for permanent, it is necessary to pay attention with nutrition.

Body:

It's a big dog robust body and dignified behaviour. Height at withers is min., male 60 cm for female min. 55 cm. The skull is broad, frontal slope (stop) should be fairly steep. The muzzle should be moderately long, angular, flat nasal bridge, broad nose and a black-coloured. Strong jaws, teeth also require a scissor bite. Eyes should be relatively small, with dark brown coloured irises, serious expression. The earlobes should be rather small and thin and must be suspended, placed high on the sides of his head, just adjacent to the cheek.

The neck is muscular with a lobe on the neck. Withers should be high, back straight and horizontal. Loins are wide and muscular. The rump is slightly rounded top. The tail should be thick at the root towards the tip gradually narrowing. If  it is suspended, reaching to the hocks.

The chest should be broad and deep with properly sprung ribs, abdomen clearly tucked up.

The forelegs are reasonably sloping shoulder blade, straight, appropriately long and thick forearms and strong, viewed from the side, slightly angled pasterns. The hindquarters are strongly muscled, knee and ankle due angulated, strong. Feet are strong, tightly clenched fingers, strong and flexible pads are hard and if possible dark coloured claws. The movement is vigorous and hearty.

The coat should be short, hard and dense. Its colour may be red, fawn any shade, apricot, black or brindle. Rather small white markings on chest and front paws are permissible.
