General Appearance:

Its character regards introverted, quite fairly closed, against unknown persons extremely distrustful dog, that despite it can be quirky, quiet and unobtrusive owner’s companion, whom apparently it is not particularly fixed. Exceptionally (if it is not properly understood and respected) may have a tendency to aggression.

Temperament/Behaviour:

Owner must be person who can understand this breed properly. This breed belongs really to experienced owners. For the sports-based owner gifted empathy and loving peace is the ideal companion, certainly it will never be unduly bother.

What is important is the widest, systematic, non-violent socialization and consistent training. It is not the best breed for children, especially small, e.g. when they make it play, it wants to have peace, it could react very gruffly. Certainly it cannot be kept permanently in an outdoor kennel, not only for its short coat that protect it during the winter freeze, but also for the typical traits of its foundation. It means close contact with the owner.

It needs plenty of exercise and regular long walks. Some individuals may attend Greyhound racing off-road or on the track. Then it is also necessary appropriate fitness training consisting of daily long walks and occasional training for bait. It is not advisable to embark on a walking freely without a leash, its hunting instinct is still strong and it could attract it.

Body:

This is a medium-sized short-haired or coated dog, overall very slim to skinny. It has pricked ears and upward motion carried, slightly arched, sabre, sickle curved tail. The height at withers, male is 66-72 cm for female is 60 to 67 cm.

The head should be long, narrow and very dry, towards the nose pointed. The skull is elongated, flat above, occipital area should be apparent. The forehead is narrower frontal slope barely visible. The muzzle must be narrow, elongated nasal dorsum should be slightly arched near the nose, the nose protrudes forward. The nostrils must be properly opened. The nose is the colour of the coat colour.

Lips are thin, light-coloured at the edges, the jaws should be strong, white teeth are regularly distributed in the jaws. It requires a scissor bite.

Eyes should be small, angled, pale amber colour and caramel. Light amber colour may have a different shade of the colour of the coat. The earlobes are deployed in line at eyes, always erect, forward and sideways or even backwards shot, very mobile, foldable back rest, in the heat of passion always erect. They have an irregular rhomboid. They should be soft, not too large.

The neck is very dry, dryly muscled, the neck slightly arched. The body must be balanced, strong, rather elongated, tap, thanks to store blades, distinctive, high, dry and long. The back should be of sufficient length and should be flat, supple and well muscled. Loins arched, moderately broad, strong and firm. Croup must be clearly sloping, bony, very strong and muscular.

The tail set low, long, and so that the rear legs stretched and attached on one side or the other in the groin to the body must reach the tip to the spine. It covers a slightly longer, rougher and slightly protruding coat, so little resembles as cob. It has to be thin at the root stronger towards the tip tapers. In repose carried hanging down freely, moving above, straight or curved sickle, but they should never be curled over the back and shoulders.

The chest must be narrow, long and deep, ribs are slightly arched. Sternum must be placed well forward and ribs connect to it at acute angles. Abdomen should be tucked up but not excessively.

Legs are in the position vertical to ground, parallel to each other. The forelegs should be close together and are long, quite strong, but dry. Shoulders must be massive. Shoulder (humerus) bones are very long, straight and strong. The elbows must be neither turned in nor out. The forearm above the wrist expanding, pasterns are strong, flexible, broad and vertical to ground.

The feet have to be almost a "hare", i.e., oval shaped, enclosed, with long fingers, between which is rich coat. Nails should be thick, white, possibly their colour to match the colour of hair, wear pads are hard. On the hind legs should be well seen a long, hard and flat muscles. Thighs should be elongated and wide, hocks are well bent low over the base.

The coat is hard and dense, short or rough. Short hair should not be silky, but rough and shiny. Rough coat should be hard and very dense, longer than the short, but not over the body as long, on the earlobes and the head is shorter on the lower jaw (which form the "beard"), back of thighs and underneath the tail must be longer - measured min. 5 cm and is softer.

It is preferred white-red mottled a single white or red coat colour. Blond colouring is permissible (but only in an otherwise exceptional quality rough individuals) not by the short haired individuals.

Faults from requests of the standard shall be considered as defects and evaluate exactly according to the seriousness with regard to the health and welfare of the male or female.
