General Appearance:

Its character is balanced, calm, almost not irritating. With children it gets well. It is very intelligent, tenacious, persistent, active, hardworking, docile, well used, friendly dog. It is never aggressive to other dogs, or people, including unknown persons. It does not make the problem be a powerful hunting dog and also a nice companion. To the owner it is affectionate and it shows him its affection.

For individuals that are exclusively from hunting breeds kennels it  may occur aggression to other animals, especially cats and ferrets. For everyday life it can be aggressive targeted and effective control only by early and systematic socialization and consistent training.

Training/Behaviour:

The education must be kind and consist. After all it can handle even a beginner. It is easy to train and operate. It is a versatile hunting hound suitable for field work. It works in the water and in the woods very well. It is challenging to move and naturally it feels really good.

Body:

This is a noble coated dog of medium size, almost square body frame. The overall appearance shows its strength and endurance. Height at withers, male is from  60 to 66 cm for female is from  58 to 62 cm, weight is in the range 28 -34 kg for males and 22-28 kg for females. Under ideal height at the withers is considered for male 63 cm for females 60 cm, ideal body weight is 34 kg for males and 25 kg for females.

The head should be dry, relatively narrow and long, carried high. Skull should be slightly arched above and slightly rounded at the sides. The dog is slightly wider than the females. The superciliary arches are pronounced and orbit profound and so great that the head gives the impression that it is square. The occipital part can be only slightly visible (foot) should be slightly sloping but clear.

The muzzle is slightly arched, with a hint down faced. The nose should be broad, always dark brown. The nostrils are wide open and responsive to odour perceptions. Lips should be medium-sized, adjacent to the jaw and teeth, not free, but the top slightly overlapping the lower. The jaws must be powerful, perfect shape, the bottom should be well muscled. Teeth strong, scissor bite is required, a full set of teeth.

The eyes should be almond shaped, kind expression and denote an astute nature. Their irises must be quite dark, rich coloured amber or hazel, eyelids tightly fitting to the eyeballs and their edges are dark. Earlobes must be set very high, with bases are wide and towards the tops are tapered. Reaching into 2/3 cheeks, the end should be slightly rounded, flat against the head.

The neck is moderately long, powerfully muscled, but dry, set in the shoulders so that it is carried high. Neck should be slightly arched. Upper body lines must be short and strong, faucet should be pronounced straight. The loin should be short, relatively broad and slightly arched. The croup is slightly sloping, wide and long enough. Sacrum shall be imposed so that the muscles had no effect on tail carriage. The tail should be set level with topline of the body and carried horizontally or slightly upward. It should be moderately strong and docked by 3/5 of its original length.

Chest has seen from the front shape of a lyre, on the imaginary cross-section is oval and its width corresponds to the total body composition. The lower edge of the chest must reach at least to the elbows. The chest is broad and needs to be pronounced. Ribcage form properly sprung ribs that are reasonably strong in relation to its length. The abdomen is slightly tucked up, but never as an individual to look emaciated.

The forelegs are well muscled, sloping shoulder blade tight chest. The shoulder bones are massive, heavily muscled. The forearms are perpendicular to the base, straight, muscular and strong, pasterns relatively short, slightly angled forward and almost perpendicular to the substrate. Feet should be compact, shortly spoon shaped, with close-knit and arched toes with strong dark gray to black claws. The pads should be thick and coarse and fully pigmented. Among the fingers are small skin duplications.

The hindquarters are seen from the side in an attitude shifted slightly backward. The pan must be correspondingly long. The femur should be strong, muscled, hocks dry, fairly low over the base, insteps almost perpendicular to the ground, short and relatively strong. Feet are the same as the forequarters, dewclaws, if any, are removed.

The body coat consists of an undercoat and top coat. The undercoat should be soft and dense, about 1.5 cm, and prevents water and moisture to penetrate to the skin, in the summer almost missing. Guard hair is divided into top coat long, 3-4 cm, rough and hard, fitting long guard coat 5-7 cm, harsh and straight. Particularly striking are the chest, back, groin and shoulder. On the limbs, hair shorter and stiffer front, while the back is longer and forms a short "feathering" (in the chest), respectively called pants. The tail may have on the underside of the "brush". The head has a bottom cheeks and lips covered with longer and softer, forming the beard typical of the breed. Hair over eyes is strong and forms obliquely upward protruding eyebrows. Forehead, crown and cheeks are covered by short coarse hair. Hair on the ear lobe is short, fine and close.

Permitted colours are:  Dark roan with or without brown patches, brown with ticked markings on forechest and lower part of the, limbs, brown without any markings.
