History: A European Short-haired Cat was apparently the crossing of the African Wild Cat, brought to Europe by the Romans two thousand years ago, and European Wild Cats. This is the most natural of all breeds and has long been used to protect the stock from rodents.
By 1982, the European Shorthair Cat had two breeds and both had the same breed standard. It was a European Shorthair Cat on a continental and a current British Shorthair Cat - a breed developed in Scandinavia from a Short-haired House Cat without the influence of a Persian Long-haired Cat. Both breeds nowadays have their own breed standard.
Temperament: Because the breed was originated from House Cats, the individual representatives of the European shorthair Cat differ in nature and the uniform characteristics of the breed cannot be easily determined. But they mostly have a friendly character, and their character is inherited by their parents. They are intelligent, playful, healthy, and strong cats that usually get well with other cats and dogs, but it shows territorial behaviour.
Body: It looks like European Shorthair Cats of ordinary House Cats. The robust body is muscular, medium to large with a round muscular chest. Medium long legs are strong and have round paws. The tail is quite strong at the root and converges to a rounded toe. The relatively large head has a relatively round shape, but not as much as British Shorthair Cats. The faces are well developed. Medium-sized ears are as long as broad on the base and have slightly rounded toes. They are set relatively wide and stand upright. The eyes are round.
Coat: Coat is dense and short, finely textured and shiny. The hair should stick together.
Care: The hair is easy to care, just brushing and combing with a simple brush once a week. At the time of moulting, a rubber brush or massage gloves can be used, but bad comb can damage the hair. If necessary, clean the ears and cut the sharp ends of the claws.
Colour variants:
All natural colours such as red, black, cream, blue, pure white, tortoiseshell, including coat of hair and combinations with white spots, they are permitted. Variants of colour and coat of hair are very diverse in European Shorthair Cats. The eye colour may be yellow, green or orange and they should correspond to the colour of the coat. The white-coloured cats, blue eyes or any other eye colour are allowed.
