General Appearance:
Today is between all French shorthaired hounds still the biggest and strongest, but it is very mobile and seeking relatively quick. It's a hunting dog applicable to all forms of hunting, in working durable, but also docile, affectionate, intelligent and obedient.
It can also be a social dog. Quick to learn, but it hates harsh treatment. Good with kids and dogs and the other small pets (cats, guinea pigs, dwarf rabbits or rats) it is better to get used to it from young age.
It needs a lot of movement it is necessary to satisfy its need for daily activities. If you have no chance to get in game every day, it is necessary to complete a daily long, brisk pace driven, walks in the countryside. Dog with the strong hunting instinct it is advisable to keep it on a leash.
Temperament/ Behaviour:
In the education and training of sufficient rigor kind, a bit of kindness and understanding. Absolutely excluded are hard to cruel par force methods (law enforcement) training.
Body:
This dog of medium size, Braque (scent hound) type, strong but not overly heavy physique has a rugged, hefty feel. The length of the body is slightly larger than height at withers. It is desirable dryly muscled limbs, pronounced relief muscular body and distinctive contour lines of the body. Height at withers, male 60 to 67cm and female is from 56 to 65 cm.
The head must be long, angular, even at the widest point of the zygomatic arches narrow. The skull is slightly longer than the muzzle, above and slightly arched. Its top line has to be seen from the side in an imaginary extension of a slightly divergent with the muzzle. Lips may be rather subtle upper reaches deep. Oral corners are significant, but not pendulous. Scissor bite is required, but tolerates a pincer. The nose should be pink, flesh-coloured or very dark or lighter brown according to the coat colour. It should never be black.
Eyes are properly stored in orbit (bulging or sunken), properly open, slightly oval-shaped, dark amber or brown colour (according to the coat colour) and mild expression. The earlobes are situated in line eye level or below. They are hanging form Corkscrew folds and do not seal tightly to the head. They have to be very gentle and so long that it stretched freely (without any violence) forward reach to the tip of the nose.
The neck should not be too long, but really strong, with not large dewlap. Topline body is in the front, from the withers to the 11th thoracic vertebrae, nearly straight, the second part slightly convex and slants towards the stern. Withers are not prominent but well-defined. The back should be short, well muscled, hard and flat. Loin slightly arched, croup should be viewed from the side slightly angled, sloping.
TAIL: Set in the line of the croup, at the base has to be strong, towards the tip tapers. 4.10 times the original length (in countries where there is no action by law for the protection of animals has been prohibited), but may also naturally long. It must not be carried above the topline of the body.
The chest is broad and deep, so that it reaches to the elbows. Ribs are well sprung, but not too much, not be barrel-shaped. The bottom line of the body from the chest rises slightly obliquely upward slightly tucked up abdomen.

The forelegs are straight, strong bones, well muscled. Shoulders should be powerful, muscular and moderately oblique. The shoulder bones are powerfully muscled, strong and fitting to the chest. The elbows should be level sternum forearm to be strong, flat and vertical to ground when viewed from the metacarpus very slightly bevelled. Tight, nearly round shape, with tightly knit toes, strong nails and high padded. The hindquarters should be vertical to ground, parallel. The thighs are muscular, long, knees parallel to the median longitudinal vertical plane of the body (pointing straight forward, should not be in or out, neither in nor out).
Tibia must be robust, moderately angulated hocks, fetlocks very short, almost perpendicular to the substrate. Feet should be the same as the forequarters. Movement is smooth and elastic, the usual kind of locomotion is tireless, energetic trot occasionally alternating with gallop.
Skin should be reasonably thick, finer on the head, fairly flexible. Visible mucous membranes must be matching the coat colour - never on them may not be black spots. The coat should be short, thick, shiny head and earlobes subtle and very short. Hair colouring contributes greatly to the elegance of the breed. It may be light brown or orange, white light with more orange or brown spots and a light orange or brown spots of white areas or white with light orange or brown spots.
Faults aggression, biting, distinctive timidity, lack of (lack of) of type (character typical of the breed), other coat colour than those in the standard, split nose (nose torn deep cut), nose-coloured black or otherwise than specified in the standard, overshot or undershot jaw, eyes too bright or glass (whitish), entropy or ectropion (including for signs of the surgery, which led to the removal of these defects), extensive no pigmentation of eyelid rims, black claws.
