History: The British Long-haired Cat is a sister´s breed of British Shorthair Cat. To improve hair, British Shorthair Cats were often bred with Persian Cats. That's why long-haired kittens sometimes were appeared in litters. It was previously removed from the breed as undesirable, but later this long-haired version of the British Cat found its supporters who devoted their breeding. They achieved recognition of the British Longhair Cat breed in 2008 by WCF, one year later by TICA, and in 2016 it was also recognized by FIFe.

Temperament: Because of its balanced, calm and friendly nature, British Cats are ideal companions. Most of them are extremely tolerant and adaptable. Their playfulness in adulthood is perfect. Generally, they do not require much attention and they are able to enjoy themselves. But it likes to love and contacts with family members.

Body: The British Long-hair Cats are close by type of body to their shorthaired relatives. They are from medium to large cats with subtle body structure in all features. They have a wide chest and a short muscular back. Short, straight legs end with round, rich, hairy and massive paws. The short to medium tail is strong and has a rounded toe. The round head looks massive. It has full faces, a wide skull and a powerful, well-developed chin. It is placed on a short, strong, muscular neck. The ears are small and short, wide on the base and stand wide apart. The eyes are large and round, the nose wide, short and straight. Deployment of the nose should not be too pronounced, but it must pass in a slight bend on the round forehead of the skull. Adult males have a more massive head than cats.

Coat: Long-haired cat's hair is very dense, soft and soft.

Care: The British Long-hair cat coat is a bit more demanding than its short-haired relatives. It should be regularly brushed and it is recommended to bath a cat several times a year, especially during moulting period.

Only clean the ears, if necessary and ends of the claws regularly.

Colour variants:

The British Long-hair Cat can appear in all colours that are recognized for British long-hair Cat – from one –colour variant, tortoiseshell, silver, golden, white spotted, pattern or acromelanic badges. The eye´s colour is in the most colour varieties ranging from gold to copper. For silvery-coloured individuals, they have a green colour and blue ones with Siamese badges.
